Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation,
The Federal Government has responded to comments made by the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, regarding the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement on Thursday titled: “We don’t need Sanusi’s stamp of approval for our laudable policies,” the government expressed disappointment at the Emir’s alleged negative comments, which they attributed to a “shift in loyalty.”

The Emir had stated that he would not offer advice to the government on how to tackle economic challenges, saying “I don’t want to help this government. They are my friends, but if they don’t behave like friends, I won’t behave like a friend.”

The government, via Mohammed Idris Malagi, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, countered that the Emir’s comments were “amusing” and that his decision not to speak the truth was due to “personal interest hinged on imaginary antagonism.”

He emphasized that the reforms implemented by the administration were essential for securing Nigeria’s long-term stability and growth.

The statement highlighted the progress made by the administration, including the unification of exchange rates, the removal of fuel subsidies, and increased investment in critical sectors.

He also noted that projections from respected institutions, including the World Bank, showed an upward trajectory in Nigeria’s GDP.

The government concluded that it did not need the Emir’s stamp of approval, emphasizing that the reforms were widely recognized as essential by global experts.
