The Labour Party (LP) has expressed confidence in winning the 2027 presidential election without forming a coalition with another political party.

According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the LP has not been approached or invited to discuss a coalition with other parties.

Ifoh emphasized that the LP’s strong grassroots support and appeal to Nigerians, as demonstrated in the 2023 elections, make it capable of independently challenging and unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Labour Party didn’t need any coalition in 2023 when it gathered millions of votes from Nigerians who wanted Labour Party to take over the leadership of the nation,” he said to Punch on Sunday.

While the LP has not ruled out the possibility of a merger if the terms are right, Ifoh stated that the party will scrutinize any potential coalition to determine its merits and demerits.

This stance is in response to speculation about a possible coalition between the LP, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) ahead of the 2027 elections.

The LP’s confidence in its ability to win without a coalition is further bolstered by its performance in the 2023 elections, which demonstrated its potential to challenge the APC.

As Ifoh noted, “We know LP has what it takes to win elections at the highest level and we demonstrated that in 2023.”
