US Embassy, Lagos Consulate To Close Monday For Labour Day












The United States Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed to the public on Monday, September 7, 2026, to mark the US Labour Day holiday.

The United States Mission Nigeria announced the closure in a notice outlining the public holidays to be observed by its diplomatic missions in Nigeria for the rest of 2026.

The schedule covers both American and Nigerian public holidays, during which the missions may suspend normal operations.

As a result of Monday’s closure, routine consular services, including visa processing, will not be available to members of the public.

The announcement comes weeks after the US Embassy disclosed that routine visa services would be handled through the Consulate General in Lagos from August 1, 2026.

The US Labour Day holiday is observed annually on the first Monday of September in recognition of the contributions and achievements of workers in the United States.
