The imperative of refurbishing the country’s image has been underscored by the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, urging Nigerians to take proactive steps in this direction.

During a meeting with former External Affairs Minister, Tom Ikhimi, on Thursday, the monarch reminisced about their collaboration during his ambassadorial tenure in Sweden, Denmark, and other Scandinavian nations in the era of late General Sanni Abacha.

Reflecting on a challenging period when Nigeria was labeled a ‘pariah state’ drawing disapproval from the global community, the traditional ruler highlighted the necessity for concerted efforts in image restoration.

Expressing gratitude for the unwavering support received during that crucial phase, the Oba acknowledged the significant role played by Ikhimi, emphasizing how it served as a formative experience in his career development.

In reciprocation, Ikhimi lauded the Oba for his remarkable contributions in shaping Nigeria and sought blessings as he commemorated a momentous milestone in his life.

He also extended congratulations to the Oba on his forthcoming investiture as Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria in Abuja.
