Turaki-Led PDP Faction Concludes Special National Convention, Picks Jonathan as Presidential Candidate

By Tgnews Reporter

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Alhaji Turaki has concluded its 2026 Special National Convention with the emergence of former Nigerian President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, as the party’s presidential candidate.

The convention, held amid ongoing political realignments within the opposition party, brought together delegates and stakeholders from across the country to deliberate on the party’s future and preparations for the next general election.

At the end of the exercise, delegates reportedly endorsed Jonathan, a former president and one-time PDP standard-bearer, as the faction’s candidate for the forthcoming presidential election.

Party leaders described the outcome as a significant step toward repositioning the PDP and strengthening its chances of returning to power at the national level. They expressed confidence in Jonathan’s leadership experience and political pedigree, saying his emergence would help unite party members and attract wider support across the country.

The convention concluded with calls for unity among party members and renewed commitment to the PDP’s vision of providing alternative leadership for Nigeria.

The development comes as political parties intensify consultations and internal processes ahead of future electoral contests.
