United States President-elect Donald Trump is considering the use of an executive order to avert the ban of the TikTok in the United States.

The Washington Post reported on Thursday, referencing individuals acquainted with the situation.

The order would defer the enforcement of the legislation mandating TikTok to be either prohibited or divested by January 19 for a duration of 60 to 90 days.

This would provide Trump’s administration the necessary time to negotiate a sale or identify an alternative resolution.

Nevertheless, from a legal standpoint, this course of action is somewhat contentious, as indicated by the report.

Simultaneously, the outgoing administration of US President Joe Biden is exploring avenues to maintain the app’s availability in the United States, as reported by NBC News, citing individuals knowledgeable about the discussions.

The White House is reportedly endeavoring to implement the law prohibiting TikTok in such a manner that would permit US users to access the application when the law becomes effective on Sunday.

Earlier this week, The Information news portal indicated that TikTok was preparing to cease operations of its application for US users on January 19.

In April 2024, Biden enacted legislation compelling TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to secure an American owner for the application.

If this does not transpire by January 19, the application will face a ban in the United States.

However, US President-elect Donald Trump has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to postpone the enforcement of the ban, allowing him time to address the dispute following his inauguration on January 20.
