Triple H on one more Goldberg match: ‘Never say never’

Triple H’s historic announcement at last night’s (Sat., Oct. 5, 2024) Bad Blood premium live event in Atlanta was the unveiling of a new Crown Jewel championship. He also revealed the champions of the men’s and women’s divisions, respectively, will meet up in matches to determine who gets to take it home. That led to World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER, who wasn’t booked for a match on the show, making his way out to say a few words. Those few words included taking some shots at a legend who was sitting in the front row, Bill Goldberg. You’ll remember, GUNTHER used Goldberg to troll Bret Hart recently, claiming he was his favorite wrestler growing up.

He made sure to inform the former WCW champion that he was lying, because why would a champion of his caliber ever look up to a one note joke like Bill Goldberg.

It was awesome.

When he also mentioned Goldberg’s family, saying he hopes he’s a better father than wrestler, that’s when the big man hopped the barricade and tried to throw hands. WWE officials put a stop to it but this was one hell of an angle to set up a future match.

But are we actually going to get one?

Goldberg has talked about wanting a retirement match, and it wasn’t that long ago he was saying AEW is too cheesy for him. So perhaps this is going to be it?

Triple H was asked about as much at the Bad Blood post-show press conference and had this to say:

“As you said, Atlanta loves Bill Goldberg and that’s why he was here tonight. He was with his wife and son, always going to get a huge reaction here enjoying the show. Things get said. I can tell you when Bill came back he was not too happy with GUNTHER and we’ll see. We’ll see.

“You know, the further you go… time catches up with all of us, right? And so the further you go those talks get further and further away from reality. But I don’t know, I saw Bill earlier in the day and it was great. And I saw Bill later in the day and there was a different look on his face and a spark in his eye. So I would say ‘never say never.’”

I don’t know how good the match would be, but I was a fan of this angle and it made me interested enough in a GUNTHER vs. Goldberg match.
