Tragedy Strikes Delta Community Following Fatal Attack on Soldiers

Following the tragic loss of 16 soldiers on a peacekeeping mission, a devastating fire engulfed numerous homes in the serene Okuoma community situated in the Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State.

The Defence Headquarters spokesperson, Tukur Gusau, revealed in a statement that the slain military personnel included a lieutenant colonel, two majors, a captain, and 12 soldiers who fell victim to an attack by local youths.

Providing further details, Gusau stated, “The tragic incident took place on Thursday, 14 March 2024, when the troops of 181 Amphibious Battalion, performing their duties in Okuoma community, were ambushed and brutally killed.”

In response to the heartbreaking event, General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, promptly initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.

A distressing video shared by Channels Television captured the ominous sight of thick black smoke billowing from buildings and distant flames devouring structures within the community.

Fearing retaliation from the military forces, some residents have fled their homes in a bid to ensure their safety amidst the escalating tension.

Expressing outrage over the incident, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori vowed to identify and bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice.
