Tragedy in Ise Ekiti After Man Attempts To Kill Daughter, Ends Life By Hanging Self

A horrifying incident in Ise Ekiti, Ise/Orun Local Government Area of Ekiti State, left a community in shock on Sunday, February 8, 2026, after a middle-aged man, identified as Segun, reportedly attempted to kill his daughter before taking his own life.

According to sources, the man allegedly tried to slit the throat of his 12-year-old daughter in the early hours of the morning. He later hanged himself from a tree behind their residence. Neighbours were reportedly alerted by commotion from the house and rushed to the scene, only to discover the man’s lifeless body.

The young girl was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where she is reportedly responding to treatment. Residents described the scene as chaotic, with neighbours and community members seeking assistance from traditional worshippers to remove the body.

A local source, who requested anonymity, described the incident as shocking and expressed relief that the girl survived the attack. “We thank God she escaped being killed. Our prayer now is for her recovery from the injury and trauma,” the source said.

Confirming the tragedy, the spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, Sunday Abutu, said the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.

The incident has sparked concern in the community, highlighting the urgent need for mental health awareness and support services in the state.
