Motorists using the Bomas – Kiserian (B19) Road should brace for over a month of traffic disruption after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) extended a temporary road closure.

In a public notice issued on October 16, 2025, KeNHA announced that the closure will affect the stretch between Brookhouse/Galleria (Km 0+500) and the Catholic University of Eastern Africa junction (Km 1+000). The disruption will begin on Monday, October 20, 2025, and continue until Monday, December 1, 2025.

KeNHA explained that the closure is necessary to facilitate the construction of two box culverts along the affected section. The project is part of ongoing efforts to enhance drainage and improve road safety along the Bomas–Kiserian corridor, an important route connecting Nairobi and Kajiado County.

“KeNHA wishes to inform the public of a temporary traffic disruption due to the closure of the Bomas–Kiserian (B19) Road from the section after Brookhouse/Galleria (Km 0+500) to the section after Catholic University of Eastern Africa junction (Km 1+000),” the agency stated.

KeNHA also urged motorists to use alternative routes during the closure period. Recommended diversions include Lang’ata Road, Lang’ata South Road, Kiboko Road, Banda Lane, Magadi Road, or Lang’ata Road, Lang’ata South Road, Kiboko Road, Mukoma Road and Magadi Road near the Shell Petrol Station.

Acting Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli assured road users that a traffic management plan has been developed to help motorists navigate the diversions smoothly.

“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the traffic diversion plan, project road signs, and cooperate with police and traffic marshals on site,” he said.

The roadworks are part of a wider maintenance and safety enhancement initiative underway across the Nairobi Metropolitan region.

Elsewhere, there will be a temporary closure of Nairobi Southern Bypass from Ole Sereni Interchange to Kikuyu Town on Saturday 25th October, 2025 at midnight to Sunday 26th October, 2025 at 2.00 pm. This is to allow for the 2025 Standard Chartered Nairobi Mararthon.

KeNHA advises motorists to use Mombasa Road from Ole Sereni through Uhuru Highway and Viceversa.
