The Oxford Dictionary has added 20 Nigerian slang words, establishing worldwide acceptance of those words.

The new words include “419,” “agbero,” “japa,” “abi,” “eba,” jand,” “area boy,” “adire,” “yahoo,” “yahoo boy,” “Naija,” “suya,” “kanuri,” “kobo,” “gele,” “cross-carpeting,” “Edo,” “yarn dust,” and “janded”.

These new words added to the Oxford Dictionary showcase the influence of Nigerian Pidgin English and Yoruba language in the country and continent, thereby earning a respectable nod from the Oxford English Dictionary.

Bosun Tijani affirms that telecoms prices will increase but not by 100%

The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has affirmed that telecom providers will increase tariff prices. However, it will not be by 100% as proposed.

The Minister made this revelation in an interview, stating that Telecom providers have requested that the government approve them to increase tariff prices by 100% due to the current economic challenges, inflation, and operational costs.

“The verdict is that tariffs will increase, but not by 100%. We are still reviewing the commissioned study, and the Nigerian Communications Commission will issue directives to strike a balance. This is about protecting Nigerians while ensuring telecom companies can continue to invest significantly,” he said.

Food prices to surge as northern farmers begin exporting goods rather than selling locally

Nigerians are about to face a surge in food price inflation as northern farmers decide to move their market internationally rather than sell locally.

Since the naira devaluation, farmers have received a fitting reward for their farm produce when they sell and warm in foreign currency instead of earning in naira.

These northern farmers are moving their market to countries like Niger, Chad, Ghana, Europe, Asia, and Cameroon.

UK flu cases continue to rise as hospitals record maximum capacity

According to reports, nearly 5,000 beds in England are occupied by flu patients, and the disease is spreading throughout the country.
