On August 2, 2021, the Nigerian Customs Service announced that 30 of the verified 65 private planes in Nigeria must pay duties to the Federal Government.

NCS revealed that there are 65 verified private plane owners in Nigeria, although Customs didn’t reveal the names of the wealthy Nigerians who fly around the world in private planes.

the Customs boss said

“Considering the rising number of compliance and the number of jets that are liable for payment of duties as well as indications by those people to do so, the Comptroller-General has again graciously given them another two weeks.

“The exercise as I stated in our previous briefings, is not intended to be punitive or to embarrass them but to ensure that these private jets that operate in the country are properly documented.

Owning a private jet in Nigeria isn’t just for convenience, but also a display of wealth and affluence and quite a handful of Nigerians are proud owners of this luxury piece of flying metal. General checks that should be done on a private jet include ‘C’ checks, software checks, fuel level, preflight, post-flight and weekly inspections etc. On average, the maintenance cost of a private jet costs about $500,000 to $1 million (approx. 290 million – 580 million NGN) per year yet people still pay this amount.

However, on this list, we’ve compiled 26 names of top Nigerian billionaires, celebrities, politicians, and men of God who don’t fly commercial lines, rather they own one or more private jets.

Some of them also have helicopters to shuttle within the 36 states of the federation plus the Federal Capital Territory.
