A picture reportedly taken in the 1950s by British expatriate officer, E.H. Duckworth (1894 – 1972) shows a man lubricating a 1938 Opel on a hydraulic lift at a mechanic workshop in Lagos.

“Cars were introduced into Lagos over the first years of the 20th century and were rapidly taken up by those Lagosians who could afford them.

“In 1907 there were just two cars on the streets of Lagos. By the 1920, there were 600 and by the 1930s there were around 500- 800 cars being registered in Nigeria each year”
