Tinubu Writes Senate, Nominates Joseph Tegbe to Replace Former Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally transmitted the name of Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe to the Senate for screening and confirmation as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The nomination comes days after the resignation of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State.

The request was contained in a letter read during Tuesday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Tinubu, in the letter, cited constitutional provisions for ministerial appointments and urged the Senate to give the nomination expedited consideration.

“In compliance with the provisions of Section 147(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I am pleased to forward for confirmation by the Senate the nomination of Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the President stated.

He added that he looked forward to the Senate’s prompt consideration of the request.

In response, Akpabio assured lawmakers that the nomination would be given priority attention and referred to the Committee of the Whole for accelerated legislative action.

Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is a seasoned technocrat with over 35 years of experience spanning engineering, accounting, management consulting, and public sector advisory roles. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major reforms in fiscal policy, governance, and institutional transformation.

His professional background includes advisory roles on regulatory frameworks, investment structuring, and economic reform programmes for both public and private sector institutions across Nigeria and the wider African region.

An alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Tegbe graduated with First Class Honours in Civil Engineering in 1988. He also trained at leading global institutions including Lagos Business School, INSEAD, and Harvard Kennedy School, and holds fellowships of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

Over the course of his career, he has been involved in major national projects, including fiscal reforms, broadband policy development, revenue optimisation frameworks, and state-level financial advisory engagements.

His nomination is seen as part of the ongoing restructuring of the Federal Executive Council following Adelabu’s exit from the Ministry of Power.
