Tinubu Tells Adeleke: ‘You Did Not Conquer Anybody, You Won an Election’

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has cautioned Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, against viewing his victory in the August 15 governorship election as a conquest over his political opponents.

Tinubu gave the admonition when Governor Adeleke visited the President to express appreciation for providing a level playing field during the election.

“You did not conquer anybody. You won an election,” the President told Adeleke, stressing the importance of seeing electoral victory as a mandate to serve the people rather than an opportunity to triumph over opponents.

The President’s remarks came as Adeleke thanked him for allowing the democratic process to take its course and ensuring a fair environment for the conduct of the August 15 Osun governorship election.

Tinubu’s message underscored the need for humility, inclusiveness and responsible leadership following electoral victories, while urging elected leaders to focus on governance and the welfare of the people.
