Tinubu makes new appointment

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Zainab Marwa as a member of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), representing the North-East geopolitical zone.

Tinubu has also forwarded her name to the Senate for confirmation.

The request was conveyed in a letter read during Thursday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Tinubu said the nomination was made in line with the provisions of the NDDC Establishment Act and is meant to fill the vacant North-East position on the commission’s board.

The vacancy arose after former board member Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas resigned from the NDDC board on March 30, 2026.

Namdas stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition in Adamawa State ahead of the next election in the state.

The President asked the Senate to consider and approve Marwa’s nomination to ensure that the North-East continues to have representation on the commission’s governing board.

Following the presentation of the letter, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on NDDC for further legislative consideration.

The committee is expected to examine the nomination and submit its report to the Senate within one or two weeks.
