Tinubu Commissions Major Infrastructure Projects in Bayelsa

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday inaugurated several key infrastructure projects in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, as part of efforts to improve connectivity, power supply and economic development in the Niger Delta.

The President formally commissioned the 2.9-kilometre dualised New Yenagoa City Road One, which links the state capital to the airport corridor. The road project forms part of the urban renewal programme of the Bayelsa State Government aimed at expanding and opening up the city for development.

The commissioning ceremony attracted several dignitaries, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, who attended alongside his wife. The host governor, Douye Diri, received the President with members of his cabinet and other top government officials.

Also present were the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Peter Akpe, and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Samuel Ogbuku, as well as several governors from other states who joined the event in solidarity with the Bayelsa government.

President Tinubu arrived earlier at the Bayelsa International Airport, where he was received by Governor Diri and other political leaders before proceeding to the project sites for the commissioning ceremony.

In addition to the New Yenagoa City Road, the President also inaugurated the 630-metre Angiama–Oporoma Bridge and Road project, which provides a vital link between the headquarters of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area and other riverine communities with the state capital.

The bridge and road project is expected to significantly ease transportation challenges faced by residents of the largely riverine local government area, while strengthening economic and social ties with Yenagoa.

Another key project commissioned during the visit was a 60-megawatt gas turbine power facility located along Elebele Road, designed to boost electricity generation and improve power supply across parts of the state.

Speaking during the event, Governor Diri described the projects as critical legacy investments aimed at addressing long-standing infrastructure gaps in Bayelsa, particularly in transportation and power.

He noted that the road network, bridge connection and new power facility would enhance economic activities, improve access to communities and support the overall development of the state.

The presidential visit marks a significant milestone in Bayelsa’s ongoing infrastructure drive, with the state government expressing optimism that the projects will accelerate urban expansion, improve connectivity and stimulate investment in the oil-rich Niger Delta state.
