Makinde Takes Swipe at Alli, Urges Oyo Residents to Vote Wisely

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has urged residents of the state to be discerning in choosing their leaders ahead of the forthcoming governorship election, taking a swipe at the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Sharafadeen Alli.

Makinde, while speaking at an event, appeared to reference a recent viral video involving Senator Alli and a student journalist during an interview.

The video, which showed Alli allegedly lapping student journalist and caressing his laps romantically, generated widespread reactions on social media, with Nigerians expressing divergent opinions over the incident.

Commenting on the development while urging Oyo residents to vote wisely, Makinde said those who support such behaviour should be prepared for its consequences.

“If you like, vote for those people lapping each other, that’s where your problem will start; they will first forget you. You better vote for who we said you should vote for,” the governor said.

The remark has since generated discussions among political observers and residents as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.

Makinde’s statement is widely seen as a direct criticism of the APC candidate and an appeal to voters to carefully consider the character, conduct and leadership capacity of the candidates seeking their mandate.
