THE TRUE END OF THE COMMANDMENT — LOVE FROM A PURE HEART

> “Now the end of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith.”

— 1 Timothy 1 vs. 5 (NKJV)

Executive. The introduction; in this verse, Apostle Paul addresses Timothy, his spiritual son, reminding him of the true purpose — “the end” — of all divine instruction. He was warning against vain disputes, empty doctrines, and religious showmanship that were creeping into the church.

Paul summarized the entire goal of Christian teaching in one word: LOVE — not the world’s version of love, but a love that flows from a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith.

This verse is not merely doctrinal; it is transformational. It captures the essence of what God desires in every believer — not just obedience to rules, but the manifestation of divine love rooted in inner purity and truth. Executive. PART ONE: UNDERSTANDING “THE END OF THE COMMANDMENT”

When Paul said “the end of the commandment”, the Greek word “telos” means the goal, purpose, or fulfillment.

So, the goal of every divine instruction, the summary of every law, the heartbeat behind every command, is LOVE. Executive.

Jesus confirmed this in Matthew 22 vs. 37–40:

> “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment.

And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Everything God commands — from holiness to generosity, forgiveness to faithfulness — is meant to produce love.

The absence of love is evidence that we have missed the very purpose of truth.

Paul said again in 1 Corinthians 13 vs. 2:

> “Though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.”

Love is not an option in Christianity; it is the fruit that proves we truly know God (1 John 4 vs. 7–8).

PART TWO: LOVE FROM A PURE HEART

The first foundation Paul mentioned is “a pure heart.”

A pure heart is one cleansed from hypocrisy, hatred, hidden motives, and selfish desires. It is a heart that loves because it is filled with God, not because it seeks personal gain.

Psalm 24 vs. 3–4 says:

> “Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place?

He who has clean hands and a pure heart.”

God’s kind of love can only flow from a heart purified by His Spirit.

Jesus said in Matthew 5 vs. 8, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

To “see God” is to reflect His nature. Thus, the pure heart reveals the pure love of God.

Executive. Here are some practical application:

Check the motive behind your kindness. Do you love because you want recognition, or because you carry the love of Christ?

When you forgive, do you do so to look righteous or to release another person from pain?

A pure heart does not love with agenda; it loves with compassion. Executive. A pure heart does not love with agenda; it loves with compassion.

Purity in heart doesn’t mean sinless perfection, but sincerity before God — an undivided heart that genuinely seeks to do His will.

PART THREE: LOVE FROM A GOOD CONSCIENCE

Executive. A good conscience refers to a moral awareness that is in agreement with God’s Word.

It means our inner man is at peace with God and with others because we live honestly and righteously.

When conscience is defiled, love becomes polluted. When conscience is clean, love becomes powerful.

1 Peter 3 vs. 16 says:

> “Having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed.”

Many believers struggle to walk in love because they carry guilt, bitterness, or secret sin that corrupts their conscience. Executive.

A bad conscience breeds suspicion, fear, and self-defense — but a good conscience breeds confidence and kindness.

How to Maintain a Good Conscience:

1. Walk in truth — let your words match your actions.

2. Confess quickly — when you sin, repent sincerely and make amends.

3. Forgive continually — holding grudges defiles the conscience.

4. Avoid hypocrisy — let your outer life reflect your inner convictions.

Life Example:

A person with a clear conscience sleeps peacefully, prays freely, and loves effortlessly. But one with hidden guilt struggles to love because guilt imprisons compassion.

PART FOUR: LOVE FROM SINCERE FAITH

The third root is “sincere faith.”

This means faith that is genuine, unfeigned, and not for show.

It is faith that trusts God from the heart — not for personal benefit, but because of a relationship with Him. Executive.

2 Timothy 1 vs. 5 says:

> “I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you.”

Faith and love are inseparable.

Galatians 5 vs. 6 says:

> “Faith works through love.”

This means that without love, faith is lifeless; and without faith, love is powerless. Executive.

Sincere faith produces confidence in God that enables us to love others even when they do not deserve it.

Practical Application:

When you have sincere faith, you love people through God’s eyes, not through their behavior.

You love by faith, even when you don’t feel like it.

You believe that love can heal, restore, and transform — because you trust the God of love.

PART FIVE: THE DIVINE ORDER —

PURE HEART → GOOD CONSCIENCE → SINCERE FAITH → LOVE

Paul’s order is divine. He didn’t say “love produces a pure heart.” He said love comes from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith.

In other words:

Purity cleanses your motives.

Conscience governs your actions.

Faith fuels your endurance.

And love becomes the fruit that others see.

Love is not the beginning of Christian maturity — it is the evidence of it.

LIFE APPLICATION — LIVING THIS TRUTH DAILY

1. In your family:

Love your spouse, children, and relatives from purity — not control. Let truth govern your actions, not emotions.

2. In your church:

Refuse to be driven by competition or jealousy. Serve from a sincere heart; do not seek recognition.

3. In your community:

Show kindness even to those who cannot repay you. Let your love be a testimony of the God you serve.

4. In your inner life:

Keep your conscience clear. When wronged, forgive. When corrected, learn. When praised, remain humble.

5. In your walk with God:

Let your faith remain sincere — not religious performance, but genuine trust in His Word and ways.

EXECUTIVE.

The true measure of spiritual growth is not in how much we preach, pray, or prophesy — it is in how much we love.

Paul told Timothy that all instruction, all ministry, all service must end in one thing — LOVE.

A pure heart keeps love holy.

A good conscience keeps love honest.

A sincere faith keeps love alive.

So, if we truly know God, we must walk in love — for God is love (1 John 4 vs. 8).

Let every believer, teacher, and minister check their motive:

Are we producing love, or just knowledge?

Are our words healing or dividing?

For “the end of the commandment is love” — not argument, not pride, not fame, but LOVE.

Executive. Final Prayer

> Lord, purify my heart that I may love without hypocrisy.

Cleanse my conscience that I may walk in peace and truth.

Strengthen my faith that my love may never fail.

Let every commandment I obey produce the fruit of love in me, that Christ may be seen in all I do.

Amen.
