Of all the car styles that have become relics of the past, the convertible may be one of the biggest shockers. Cruising up and down the California coast or along Route 66 in a topless Corvette or a convertible Cadillac is a classic American experience every driver should enjoy at least once. But recent reports show typical annual sales for convertibles at around 0.6% of car sales in the US total. That means roughly one convertible for every two hundred vehicles sold - not that many. In fact, some brands have dropped them entirely from their lineups: Audi no longer makes convertibles at all.
