“The Incompetence is a Virus” — Writer Shares Chilling Hospital Experience After Nurse’s Near-Fatal Error

Popular writer Sally Kenneth Dadzie has issued a strong warning to Nigerians following a frightening experience at a local hospital. Taking to Facebook, she urged patients to never visit a medical facility alone, regardless of how minor the illness may seem.

Dadzie recounted a recent visit with her daughter, who required daily injections. On their third day, amidst the chaos of a busy hospital ward, a nurse rushed into the room and prepared to administer medication without verifying the patient’s identity.

A Costly Oversight According to Dadzie, the nurse picked up medication belonging to a 47-year-old woman named Grace to give to her young daughter.

“I immediately stopped her,” Dadzie wrote. “She was about to start arguing when I told her that my daughter’s name wasn’t Grace. Instead of listening, she was pretending to read the file. She then said, ‘Ehen! I was wondering how this small girl is 47.’ She hadn’t even opened the file!”

A Call for Vigilance The writer expressed deep concern over what might have happened if her daughter had been alone or if she hadn’t been paying close attention. She emphasized that extreme fatigue or severe illness often prevents patients from monitoring their own treatment, making a companion essential.

“Please, always have someone with you and never let your loved ones go alone,” she pleaded, describing the level of negligence she witnessed as a “virus” within the system.
