Supreme Court: If It Doesn’t Favour Us, If They Scarp The Party, What Will I Do? — Peter Obi Reacts

Former Governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has addressed developments within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following the conclusion of its national convention.

Obi spoke during an interview at the convention, as aired by Arise Television on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, where he commented on the outcome of proceedings and the party’s legal outlook.

Providing an update on the convention, he stated, “Well, we’ve been able to hold… I can say our convention is coming to an end.” He added, “Everybody thought it wouldn’t go through. But you can see the convention started by 12 noon and we’re still here now, concluding the convention.”

Responding to questions about internal party decisions, Obi confirmed that key structures had been finalized: “Including a new constitution. They’ve all been ratified.”

He further noted the conduct of the process, stating, “And you saw it go peacefully, with the voting and everything, done in a manner we want democracy to be.”

The interviewer also raised concerns about the pending Supreme Court ruling that could affect the party’s status and asked whether he would consider moving to another platform if the decision does not favor the ADC.

In response, Obi expressed confidence in the legal outcome. He said, “No, I’m sure it will favour us. It will favour us because they have taken a decision on it before that INEC have no reason to be involved in internal affairs of a party.”

He, however, acknowledged the possibility of an unfavorable ruling, adding, “But if they say, if it doesn’t favour us, if they scrap the party, what will I do? Of course, we must be on the ballot….See More
