Africa’s reigning champions, Nigeria’s Super Falcons, will step up their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) when they compete in the West African Football Union (WAFU B) Four-Nation Tournament scheduled for 27 February to 7 March 2026 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed the Falcons’ participation in the mini-tournament, to stand as a high-level rehearsal just weeks before the continental finals.

The competition will feature four West African nations already qualified for WAFCON 2026 Nigeria, hosts Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Senegal

WAFU B Tournament Set as Key WAFCON Dress Rehearsal

The preparatory competition will take place barely ten days before the start of WAFCON 2026, which runs from 17 March to 3 April 2026 in Morocco.

Nigeria have already been drawn in Group C of the tournament, where they will face Zambia, Egypt and Malawi in the quest to reclaim continental supremacy.

The NFF described the WAFU B Four-Nation Tournament as a strategic step designed to ensure the Super Falcons arrive at WAFCON in peak competitive shape.

NFF Confirms Participation, Squad List to Follow

NFF Director of Competitions, Ruth David, confirmed Nigeria’s entry into the tournament and stated its importance to the Falcons’ overall preparation plan.

According to her, the WAFU B Secretariat formally invited Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal, all confirmed WAFCON participants to take part in the Abidjan tournament.

She further revealed that the Super Falcons squad list, submitted by head coach Justin Madugu, will be released in the coming days through official channels.

Four Qualified Teams, One High-Intensity Tournament

All four nations involved in the Abidjan competition will also feature at the WAFCON finals, giving the Falcons a rare opportunity to test themselves against fellow qualifiers in a competitive environment rather than friendly fixtures.

The tournament is expected to:

  • Help refine tactical systems

  • Improve squad cohesion

  • Allow technical staff assess player fitness and form

  • Aid injury management and rotation ahead of WAFCON
