Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Umar Damagum, and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, have faced severe criticism from the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, for their recent uncomplimentary remarks against Edwin Clark.

According to reports, Clark had urged the PDP leadership to expel Wike from the party due to his alleged anti-party activities.

In a statement released on Thursday, the President of IYC, Dr Theophilus Alaye, emphasized that Clark is an exceptional and fearless leader who garners national respect and widespread acceptance, especially among the Ijaws and the Niger Delta residents.

Alaye highlighted that the elder statesman is known for his straightforwardness and honesty in addressing issues.

Accusing Damagum of collaborating with Wike to undermine the party, Alaye criticized their actions, labeling them as detrimental to the PDP’s interests.

He suggested that Damagum’s reluctance to take action against such rebellious members signals his destructive motives towards the PDP.

Alaye believed that Damagum’s criticism of Clark indicates a lack of commitment to rebuilding and strengthening the PDP as the primary opposition party aiming to regain power at the national level.

IYC highlighted Wike’s indebtedness to the Ijaw community for supporting his political journey thus far, cautioning that ingratitude could jeopardize his standing among them.

Alaye pointed out, “Wike’s credibility is undermined by his past criticisms of former President Muhammadu Buhari, APC, and Bola Tinubu before the 2023 presidential election. Accepting a ministerial role under their party’s control, which he vehemently denounced, reflects poorly on his integrity.”
