Amid uncontrolled influx of people to Lagos State and a rising crime rate, the deputy governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, has said state police will help to tackle the crime rate in the state.

He noted that most of the security challenges in the state were being orchestrated by people from other states of the federation.

The leading governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election in the state, stated this during consultations with political leaders and other prominent Lagosians in the Ikorodu area of the state.

Hamzat assured his host communities in the Ikorodu Division of their request for the urban renewal drive, including the provision of infrastructure and other necessary amenities.

He said, “But the question is: are we ready to support the government when it’s time, it’s urban renewal, because people are usually opposed to change. But without pain, it’s difficult to get the urban dream”.

His first point of call was the residence of the former Deputy Governor of Lagos, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, where prominent indigenes of the division, including Ashipa Kaoli Olusanya, APC chairman in Ikorodu, Hon Olasunkanmi Tijani, among other dignitaries, endorsed his candidature.

He was accompanied by the former Senators, Muslim Obanikoro, Ganiyu Solomon, Chief Mutiu Are, Hon. Bode Oyedele, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works, Adekunle Olayinka.

Expressing his delight in welcoming the Deputy Governor, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye said. However, their expectations as Ikorodu indigene were not actualised. Deliver in God, His wish has been fulfilled in the choice of Hamzat. We support you. We pray that God will guide you in the discharge of the onerous duty of serving Lagos”.

At the residence of Asiwaju of Igbogbo Kingdom, another member of the Governance Advisory Council, Olorunfemi Bashorun, also endorsed Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, saying,” It is not I alone, but the entire Igbogbo community. I don’t havdon’t doubt about your competency, humility, and dedication to your duties. God that helped those before you will see you through.”

Similarly, the former Head of Service (HOS) in Lagos, Prince Adesegun Ogunlewe, also attested to the quality and character of Dr Hamzat.

At the residence of Former Minister of Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, it was the same rousing welcome, even as he equally supported the candidature of the deputy governor.

The former Works minister advised Hamzat to assemble various committees to make his administration a “resounding success”.
