The National President of Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF), Yerima Shettima, has said that the reason the Southeast did not participate in the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest is because the Southeast region feel that they don’t have a problem.

He said that the reason the protest was serious in the North is because the northern region is battling hunger crisis.

Speaking during an interview with Vanguard on Sunday, Shettima said that appointees from the North have not made enough contributions to the development of the region, and that the people have been left to their fate.

Reacting to question about why the Southeast decided not to participate in the hunger protest, he said, “They (Southeast) feel they don’t have a problem, but we in the North have a problem. The North is experiencing hunger.

“We, the stakeholders, know what we go through because we have something to do. Out of what we work for, we bring it to assist our people. But those who have appointments in government are only interested in their interests.”

He called on the government to declare a state of emergency on insecurity in the flashpoint areas so that the insecurity challenges in the country can be addressed once and for all. He lamented that farmers can no longer go to farms because of the activities of bandits in the North.

On August 1, Nigerians across the country had stormed the streets to protest against hunger and economic hardship in the country. While the protest had taken violent turns in some parts of the North, the Southeast people had shunned the hunger protest……. Continue Reading
