THANKFULLY, HIS PERFORMANCE, ALTHOUGH SEEN AS INSINCERE, WAS WITHOUT FLAW. PRAY FOR THIS YOUNG PASTOR, AND PRAY FOR HIS CHURCH. REGARDING THE CRYPTO COIN, HE SHOULD PUT IT IN A BEAUTIFUL FRAME AS ONE OF THE GREATEST MEMORIES OF HIS LIFE.

 

If you didn’t know who Pastor Lorenzo Sewell was before, you might definitely know now after his fiery prayer at the presidential inauguration. However, social media users weren’t so moved by his words. In fact, some were offended.

Typically when being prayed out of service, everyone stands to their feet, bows their head, closes their eyes and clears their mind as instructed. President Donald J. Trump stood eyes open, tilting his head to the side unable to keep his glance off Pastor Sewell as he delivered an explosive prayer in a strong tone reminiscent of a 1960s civil rights leader.

The Detroit-based pastor began praying that the nation would begin to “fulfill the true meaning of our creed,” citing the Declaration of Independence’s “all men are created equal” decree. He also prayed for a day that we would not be judged by the color of our skin but by the content of our character.

Then, with lots of hand gestures, wide glances to the ceiling and a growl in the delivery of every other word, Sewell sewed in pieces of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

 

“When we let freedom ring we will be able to speed up that day all of your children, Black men and white men, Protestant and Catholic, Jew and Gentile, will be able to sing in the meaning of that old negro spiritual: Free at last, free at last. Thank you God Almighty, we are free at last,” cited Sewell.

However, his soulful cadence was not welcomed by some Black social media users. Most people just laughed at the video recording of the prayer or took it to be performative or “coonery.”

“Pastor Lorenzo Sewell I hope I never reach your level of coonery,” one X user wrote.

“They should not have let this pastor Lorenzo Sewell carry on with this ‘benediction’ like that, at the inauguration. What a disgrace,” wrote another user.

Meanwhile, other users took him to be making a mockery of MLK and accused him of straight up plagiarism.

“Lorenzo Sewell chose #MLKDay to mock Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on worldwide television at the close of a presidential inauguration. Not sure I’ve seen a more shameful display, ever,” one X user wrote.

Pastor Lorenzo Sewell criticized for inauguration prayer, meme coin push

After delivering a standout prayer during President Donald Trump’s second inauguration on Monday, invoking Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic “I Have a Dream” speech, Pastor Lorenzo Sewell of 180 Church in Detroit, Michigan, has sparked a heated debate about his style and sincerity.

Sewell, who welcomed Trump at his church last June for a roundtable while the former president was on the campaign trail, was one of four religious leaders selected to deliver a benediction during the inauguration.

As he delivered an animated prayer, during which he thanked God for miraculously saving Trump from assassination attempts, the criticisms came quickly.

In an apparent dig at Sewell’s delivery, former NFL player and outspoken Christian Benjamin Watson called the 180 Church pastor “a complete disgrace.”

“He should be ashamed of himself. What an embarrassment,” Watson wrote in a post on X.

When activist missionary worship leader Sean Feucht replied that he thought Sewell’s prayer was “brilliant and anointed,” Watson shot back, “Make sure you buy some of his crypto too if you really believe that.”

Watson was referring to Sewell’s promotion on X of a volatile meme coin bearing his name called $Lorenzo shortly after his prayer for the president.

“The crypto community was kind enough to send me $Lorenzo, so I have permanently locked my tokens into a Liquidity Pool, so that I will never sell on the community but rather just earn fees as our token continues to flourish! Amazing day, all the Glory to God!” Sewell tweeted.

Sewell encouraged followers to purchase the coin to “help us do what we need to do in the ministry.”

“I need you to do me a favor to go and get that coin for us to accomplish the vision that God has called us to do on earth,” Sewell said. “I give God glory for what He has done. We know that King’s dream can only be fulfilled if we acknowledge that people are living in a nightmare.”

Other critics, such as Tennessean Democrat Christopher Hale, who worked on the Obama-Biden campaign and unsuccessfully ran for U.S. Congress in 2020, accused Sewell of robbing the poor through the meme coin.

“Stealing from the poor is an affront to the gospel,” Hale wrote in a comment on Sewell’s Monday video.

Some Christians and Trump supporters who supported Sewell’s prayer, like Angie M, expressed disappointment over the meme coin.

“I enjoyed your prayer at the inauguration more than I can express. But somehow … I don’t think Jesus would approve of this. You know … he turned over the tables of money changers. This needs to change in our churches. More helping others not making money. Time to reverse the direction,” she wrote on X.

Meme coins, according to America’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, Coinbase, “are a type of cryptocurrency that are often inspired by internet memes, characters, or trends. They are typically supported by enthusiastic online communities and are generally intended to be light-hearted and fun.”

Dogecoin and Shiba Inu are examples of meme coins, which are not often bought for their usability. They can be considered “risky and volatile trading assets” or just a joke. Traders have shown interest in meme coins, however, because it is possible to gain high returns from them.

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump have also recently launched their own meme coins, The Associated Press reports, but critics of this move say it looks like a cash grab that could undermine efforts to legitimize cryptocurrency.

“I really was kind of bummed out when I saw it,” Tom Schmidt, a partner at a crypto venture capital firm Dragonfly, told the news agency. “It just felt very grifty and cheap.”

Trump launched his meme coin known as $TRUMP last Friday for nearly $6.50 per token. The meme coin price hit a high of $73 on Sunday before falling to $45 as of Tuesday. The meme coin is now worth billions, according to Quartz.

The sale of Trump meme coins was organized by CIC Digital, an affiliate of the Trump Organization, according to the AP. The website selling the Trump meme coin states that they are meant as expressions of support and not an investment opportunity.

Some 200 million Trump meme coins are reportedly available, but some 1 billion coins are expected to be issued over the next three years.

THE BIG QUESTION
GOSPEL LIGHT MINUTE X #447 WITH DANIEL WHYTE III

This is the “Chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #447 titled, “The Big Question” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

“HAVE YOU BEEN BORN AGAIN?”
The question is not “Have you joined a church?” or “Are you trying to do your best?” or “Do you have religion?” but “Are you twice-born?” Jesus Christ said in John 3:3, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”.
We enter the physical world by birth. Spiritual life likewise is entered with a birth. We become members of a human family by birth; we become members of the family of God by birth, by being “born again.” There is no other way to get into the human family except by birth, and there is no other way to get into God’s family except by the new birth. Neither education, nor cultivation, nor reformation, nor “turning over a new leaf,” will accomplish this. What is needed is not a new “leaf” but a new “life”! “Ye must be born again” (John 3:7).

A New Nature Needed
By physical birth we become partakers of human nature; by being born again we become “partakers of the divine nature”. A Christian is the product of a divine “begetting”. The second birth is not an improvement of the old nature; it is the imparting of an entirely new nature. The old nature is hopelessly corrupt and incapable of ever being made fit for His presence. The new birth requires a creative act of the Holy Spirit. “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature”.

Not “Trying” But “Trusting”

“Trying to follow Christ” is not Christianity. Christianity is not imitation of Christ, it is the indwelling of Christ. Christianity is not trying to do anything. It is trusting Christ Who has done it all! He has “finished the work” and there is nothing left to do but simply to receive and trust Him. He shed His precious blood on the cross and the work is all done once and forever! Cease trying and begin trusting! Believers will progressively become more and more like Christ, but by His power, not their own.

What Must I Do To Be Saved?
Simply “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ”. The Bible says in 1 John 5:1, “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God”. The Bible states in John 1:12,13, “As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God”.
You are born again, you become a Christian by trusting a Person—receiving a Person. The very moment you do this, the Lord Jesus Christ comes in and life begins!

What Is Meant By “Believe”?
To “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ” means more than simply believing the historic facts concerning Him. Intellectual belief about Christ is not sufficient. The belief that brings salvation must be “with the heart,” that is, with the whole being. This belief also includes repentance: “Repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ”. The Bible states in Acts 17:30, “God … now commandeth all men every where to repent”.

The faith which saves, then, includes the necessity to repent, and to receive Christ as Saviour and Lord, to rest upon Him alone for salvation. It means to trust Him so utterly and completely that, if He should fail, there would be no hope at all!

May I Know That I Am Born Again?
This is an important question. We know that we are born again by the testimony of God’s Word. God says in John 5:24, “He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life”. Have you believed on the Lord Jesus Christ as explained by God’s Word? If so, then you are saved, you are “born again,” you have “passed from death unto life.” God says so! Take God at His Word, and go on your way rejoicing!

One Final Word
You may “belong to a church,” you may be “trying to do the best you can,” you may be “striving to live right.” Your outward life may be the model of moral correctness, and you may be looked up to, honored, revered, and respected. Yet, if you have not been “born again” you are just as lost as if you had never heard of Christ. Yes, you may teach in the Sunday school, read the Bible, sing, shout, “feel happy,” and all the rest—but if you have never been “born again” you are still in your sins and a stranger to the Lord Jesus Christ!.

If you want to be saved from the wrath to come and from an eternity in Hell, and if you believe that Jesus Christ suffered, bled, and died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose again from the dead and you are willing to trust Jesus Christ with all of your heart so you can go to Heaven, please pray with me what is called the sinner’s prayer: Holy Father God, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I admit that I have sinned against You and that I have broken Your Ten Commandments. I have lied before. I have stolen things before. I have lusted after people and things before. I have dishonored and disobeyed my parents. I have taken Your holy Name in vain. For Jesus Christ’s sake, please have mercy and grace upon my soul and forgive me of all of my sins, my failures, and my faults. As I now believe in Your Holy Son the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe that He suffered, bled, and died on the cross for my sins, was buried and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me to repent of my sins past. Help me to turn from my old, evil life and follow You in the new life. For it is in Your Name I pray. Amen.
