Six Students from Abuja Regional Final Advance to MTN Spelling Bee Grand Finale

It was a day of pure excitement and wide smiles in Abuja, as the region’s brightest young minds showcased their linguistic prowess at the MTN mPulse Spelling Bee regional finals. The atmosphere was electric, brimming with anticipation, but what truly stood out was the focus, determination, and talent of the contestants.

From a competitive field, six outstanding students emerged as regional champions: Samuel Babalola, Ojoma Gabriel Sylver, Favour Shuwa, Henry Elebiga Goodness, Levi Kelechi Ebisike, and Mary Chukwudi. Their flawless spelling of challenging vocabulary earned them the honour of representing the North-Central, North-East, and North-West geopolitical zones at the Grand Finale in Lagos.

Speaking at the event, Temilolu Salako, Senior Manager, Segment Marketing, Youth, Women, & Teen, MTN Nigeria, said, “At MTN, we believe in the power of connectivity and technology to transform lives and build a brighter future for everyone. My team and I are here to inspire, support, and guide you on your journey to success. Together, we can achieve great things and make a lasting impact.”

For the young winners, it was a moment of pure joy. Beaming with excitement, one of the finalists, Mary Chukwudi, said, “I’m so happy, I have already declared I would win before we started, and I’m so glad I won, and I’m now in the finals, and I’m really proud of myself. I can’t wait to go to Lagos for the grand finale.” Her words captured the energy and enthusiasm that filled the air as the audience erupted in applause.

Their victory grants them access to a grand prize pool valued at over ₦40 million, designed to reward academic excellence and foster future leadership. The overall national champion will receive a ₦5 million educational grant, a brand-new laptop and smartphone, and the prestigious opportunity to serve as “MTN CEO for a Day.”

The positive impact extends beyond the students themselves. The champion’s school will receive a ₦10 million flagship project, which includes a fully equipped modern ICT lab, an investment that reflects the brand’s vision of using literacy as a bridge to technological empowerment.

The achievement in Abuja is a powerful testament to the rewards of focused study and ambition. They now carry the hopes of their regions to Lagos, ready to compete for the national crown and the significant opportunities that await the country’s top young speller.
