Simeone praises Lookman despite Atlético’s defeat to Real Madrid

Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has praised Ademola Lookman for his standout performance despite his side’s 3–2 defeat to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Lookman opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, showcasing his attacking quality in a well-worked move. After receiving a pass from Johnny Cardoso, the Nigerian winger drew in two defenders before linking up with Matteo Ruggeri. The move culminated in a clever backheel assist from Giuliano Simeone, allowing Lookman to slot home from close range.

It was the 28-year-old’s second league goal of the season and another sign of his growing influence since joining Atlético.

Speaking after the match, Simeone highlighted Lookman’s development and commitment.

“Ademola Lookman is improving, working very well, giving us different things,” Simeone said. “We’re helping him grow defensively because he has that work ethic. He’s a player with a big heart and a desire to learn. Hopefully he keeps giving us important things like today.”

Despite the defeat to Carlo Ancelotti’s side, Lookman’s performance was a bright spot for the Rojiblancos as they continue their push in LaLiga.

The Nigeria international has now registered five goals and three assists in 14 appearances across all competitions this season, underlining his importance to Simeone’s evolving squad.
