Shopify did it. So did Dunkin' Donuts. And IKEA too. They all started doing one thing. Then flipped to a way better thing. Here’s how. → William Rosenberg opens a diner in 1948. It’s called Open Kettle. He quickly notices that coffee and donuts are top sellers. People are actually buying the coffee just to dunk the donut. He drops everything and leans into that. Then he gives his diner a fresh new name: Dunkin' Donuts. → Ingvar Kamprad starts a mail-order company in 1943. He's selling little things like pencils and picture frames. Before long, people are asking for just one thing: furniture. He spots an opportunity to sell it in a whole new way. So he refocuses the business. And calls it IKEA. → Three guys open a store in 2004. Selling snowboards on the internet. But their eCommerce software sucks. So they build their own. It works well. Really well. Soon other shops want to use it too. So the guys ditch snowboards and go all in on software. They call it Shopify. ___ Be consistent in
