Shocking Video Shows Matatu Tout Pushing Girl; NTSA Takes Swift Action

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended the driving license of a matatu driver following a shocking incident in Riruta, Nairobi County, where a tout was caught on camera pushing a young girl along the roadside, nearly causing her to fall into a drainage channel.

In a statement released on Thursday, January 15, NTSA confirmed that the driver had been subjected to a retest but failed, prompting the suspension of his license.

“Both the driver and the conductor have been disengaged by the Sacco. The Driver’s DL has also been suspended after he failed a re-test,” NTSA stated.

The matatu’s Sacco has also taken action, terminating both the driver and the conductor involved in the incident.

NTSA Calls for Public Vigilance

The authority urged members of the public to report reckless driving to help prevent similar incidents, emphasizing the importance of providing vehicle details, location, and time of the offense.

“Report any instances of reckless driving on our roads by providing details such as the vehicle’s registration number, the location of the incident, as well as the date and time,” NTSA added.

The incident quickly went viral on social media, sparking outrage among Kenyans, many of whom called for swift action against the matatu crew.
