Semenyo Relishes Trophy Success After FA Cup Heroics for Man City

Antoine Semenyo admitted he had never previously experienced competing for major honours after inspiring Manchester City to victory over Chelsea in Saturday’s FA Cup final.

The Ghanaian forward proved decisive at Wembley, producing a clever backheel finish from an Erling Haaland delivery to secure a narrow 1-0 triumph for City.

Semenyo has enjoyed a remarkable 2025/26 campaign. His impressive goal-scoring form for Bournemouth, where he reached double digits in the Premier League, earned him a £62.5 million move to Manchester City during the winter transfer window.

City also recruited Marc Guehi as part of efforts to add proven Premier League quality and leadership to a squad rebuilding after ending last season without silverware for the first time since 2017.

The signings have already paid dividends, with City lifting two domestic cup trophies while continuing to challenge for the league title.

Speaking on the goal that clinched the FA Cup title, the advice he got from his manager, he said:”Everything happened so fast to be honest. It came straight to me and I had to improvise myself as quickly as I can. It has happened a couple of times in training – it happened perfectly today.

“It is a good finish, I can’t lie. As a kid I have always wanted to be playing for the top teams – it took a long time to get there, but I am grateful.

“The first thing he [Pep Guardiola] said to me when I came was ‘don’t change your game’. He knows we control the game a lot, he still wants me to be me, still create a bit of chaos.

“I have never competed for trophies like this before, so everything is new to me. Hopefully, we can finish the job off.”
