Kelechi Iheanacho earned high praise from Martin O’Neill after inspiring Celtic FC to a Scottish Cup semi-final victory over St Mirren FC.

Iheanacho came off the bench to score twice in extra-time, helping Celtic secure a dominant 6-2 win over their opponents.

His first goal came from a near-post header off a cross by James Forrest, before he added a second with a superb left-footed finish from inside the box.

O’Neill highlighted the striker’s impact, noting his importance to the team despite recent injury setbacks.

“It was a tough afternoon, but there were some great goals, Kelechi Iheanacho coming on and doing brilliantly,” he told Celtic TV.

“Everyone in the dressing room knows that he has been a really good player. He’s had a few injuries and he’s been trying to get that fitness, but a properly fit Iheanacho is definitely a handful as he’s proved today.”

The 29-year-old forward has now taken his tally to six goals in all competitions for Celtic this season.
