Say YES to kids, Say YES to BOOKS!

Say YES to kids, say YES to BOOKS!

I fell in love with reading books at a very tender age. My mother, an underpaid civil servant, could not afford the books that I craved to read. She eventually registered me in a local library where I spent every afternoon after school through out my primary school days. I eventually read the entire books in the kids’ section of the Library until the Librarian who was so impressed by my voracious hunger for reading named her new-born daughter after me.

Say YES to kids, Say YES to BOOKS!

Today, as an adult, I see that same need, passion and hunger among many young children including my own daughter who loves to read anything in print. Reading is one of the best skills any child can develop to be the best version of themselves in future. Unfortunately, a lot of children cannot read because they are either not exposed to reading and education and can not also afford to buy the books to hone their reading skills. According to the UN, across Sub-Saharan Africa, 202 million children and adolescents are not learning and have no access to book.  Nearly 90% of children between the ages of about 6 and 14 will not meet minimum proficiency levels in reading if they are not exposed to proper education and provision of the right books.

A few years ago, through my foundation, Lively Stones, I began to reach out to children and teenagers in schools and communities where I distribute free books that will sharpen their minds and horizon. Within the past 7 years, we have successfully distributed thousands of books to many vulnerable and indigent children.

Our strategy is to provide books that are morally and psychologically sound because we have observed that children have been exposed to a lot of morally-deficient materials from all kinds of media.

To this end, we are partnering with the SAY YES TO KIDS CAMPAIGN to distribute 5 million books to indigent children in Lagos State from September to October.

We invite you to join us to make this campaign a success. Let us begin to reach our young children early. Every parent, every adult and every well-meaning individual should join this campaign with us.

How Do You Join This Campaign?

With as little as Six Hundred Naira (=N= 600.00), you can get a book for a child. You can sponsor the purchase of books for 10 – 1,000 children. The more books you sponsor, the more we can achieve our goal of reaching five million children in Lagos State.
