Ruto Exposes Trump for Donating Second-Hand Army for Haiti Mission Endangering Soldiers

Kenya’s President William Ruto has revealed that the United States (U.S) government donated second-hand army vehicles for the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission to Haiti.

Speaking during the High-Level Meeting on Haiti in New York, Ruto thanked the U.S administration for contributing to the Mission.

He stated that the U.S donated second-hand vehicles for the MSS Mission, which broke down many times.

Ruto said the vehicles sometimes break down in the territory of the armed gangs, thus endangering the lives of the MSS soldiers.

I must thank the U.S government, they did make available logistics vehicles, but unfortunately, most of them were second-hand vehicles and they broke down a lot many times. In fact, it put our personnel in great danger when they broke down in dangerous places. But they at least stepped up. We didn’t, however, get any useful support from any other quota.

Ruto said the MSS Mission has been operating at 40% capacity since no other part of the U.S took part.

“Initially, it was expected that 2500 security personnel would be made available, but unfortunately, they were not made available. It was also expected that there would have been force multipliers like armoured personnel carriers, enough logistics support to make the mission a success,” he said.

Plea to the UN and International Community

Ruto said the situation in Haiti can be solved if the international community intervenes.

He explained that the people of Haiti, women, and children, deserve the support of the international community.

What is going on in Haiti is unacceptable, indefensible; it is simply wrong that we cannot marshal the support that is necessary for us to stabilize Haiti and drive out the gangs. The gangs are cowards; with very minimal intervention, they have literally gone into hiding.

Ruto emphasized that the situation in Haiti can and must be solved.

Ruto Talks of Trump’s Proposed Haiti Mission

He expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing conversation about the successor mission to MSS.

However, Ruto said the UN must correct the mistakes made in the MSS Mission to ensure the new Mission succeeds.

Ruto said the mandate of the successor mission must be clear with a predictable resource package.

“We must have the necessary logistical support to make that mission succeed. I want the Security Council to exercise its mind on the support that is going to be made to the successor mission. The biggest challenge to MSS was logistical, transport support. If that remains unpredictable, I am afraid the next mission might suffer the same as MSS,” Ruto said.
