ROH women’s Pure tournament final is set after forfeit

ROH TV (ep. 144) hosted the semifinals for the women’s Pure tournament on the night before Final Battle. The bracket was set for Deonna Purrazzo versus Queen Aminata and Billie Starkz versus Yuka Sakazaki. Unfortunately, one matchup was a forfeit.

Aminata previously suffered a neck injury. She was still not cleared to compete, so Purrazzo was granted a pass to advance to the finals. Neither woman wanted it to happen this way. Aminata decided that she wasn’t willing to risk the health of her neck. Purrazzo prides herself as a fighter, so she was looking forward to the competition. Purrazzo will turn her focus to winning the ROH Women’s Pure Championship, and Aminata can get a shot when she’s healthy.

On the other side of the bracket, Starkz and Sakazaki went to work. Both women used all three rope-breaks. The third came on an ankle lock duel. Starkz and Sakazaki cranked their submissions at the same time and grabbed the ropes nearly at the same time to get free. In the end, Starkz outsmarted her opponent to win. Sakazaki gained the edge in striking, so Starkz went low for a roll-up with her feet on the ropes for leverage.

The ROH Women’s Pure Championship tournament final is set for Final Battle on Friday, December 5. Purrazzo versus Starkz will determine the inaugural titleholder.

The Final Battle PPV will be available for streaming through the Honor Club monthly subscription.
