Rivers United appoint former Super Eagles boss Finidi George as new head coach

Rivers United of the Nigeria Professional League have appointed Finidi George as their new head coach.

The NPFL winners will introduce Finidi in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

Finidi takes over for Stanley Eguma, who was fired near the end of last season.

Evans Ogenyi, the former Lobi Stars head coach, briefly managed the squad for the balance of the season.

Finidi, who previously coached Enyimba, led the club to win the NPFL title in the 2022/23 season.

In May, he briefly served as head coach of the Super Eagles but resigned after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) decided to appoint a foreign technical adviser to oversee the team.

Rivers United had a disappointing finish last season, ending in eighth position in the NPFL. The club hopes Finidi’s appointment will usher in a new era of success.
