Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a Christian cleric, Prophet Chibueze Hazel Akwiwu, has urged Nigerians to remain calm over the renewed debate surrounding the possibility of a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.

Akwiwu made the appeal on Monday while speaking with journalists in Owerri, the Imo State capital, on the state of the nation. He was reacting to recent comments by Islamic cleric, Sheikh Yahaya Jingir, concerning the possibility of another Muslim-Muslim ticket in the country’s political space.

The cleric described the statement as a “spirit of error,” alleging that Jingir had been manipulated.

According to Akwiwu, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not assume office to pursue a religious agenda, but rather to promote good governance and national development.

“Nobody should panic concerning the statement of the Muslim cleric on Muslim-Muslim ticket. That is a spirit of error; he was manipulated,” Akwiwu said.

He argued that previous attempts to undermine the Tinubu administration through what he described as an “insult format” had failed, maintaining that the current controversy over a Muslim-Muslim ticket would similarly not derail the administration.

“They came with insult format, it did not hold ground. Now they have come with Muslim-Muslim ticket; it will not still hold ground,” he stated.

Akwiwu called for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, particularly Christians and Muslims, stressing that Muslims should not be perceived as a threat to good governance or national development.

“As a spiritual man, I’m telling you that Muslims in Nigeria are not a threat to good governance,” he said.

The cleric, however, went further to express his Christian belief that Muslims would eventually embrace Christianity, citing biblical passages, including Acts 28:28 and Romans 9:30–33, in support of his position.

He appealed to Nigerians to avoid allowing religious sentiments to deepen divisions in the country, urging citizens to remain focused on good governance, national development, peace and unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
