Rema was backstage act at my 2016 inauguration – Obaseki

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has revealed that popular musician, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, was a backstage performer at his 2016 inauguration.

In a post on X on Friday, Obaseki praised Rema’s achievements in the music industry, noting that he has become a global sensation in just eight years.

The governor expressed his pride in Rema’s journey, saying, “Only a few could have imagined that #heisrema, who was one of the backstage acts at my inauguration in 2016, would achieve global sensation status by 2024.”

Obaseki also highlighted the achievements of Edo Queens, the state’s women’s football team, which has conquered West Africa and is poised for African dominance.

“Or that Edo Queens, who joined our women’s football league barely three years ago, would go on to conquer West Africa and be poised for African dominance. But these are just a few anecdotes of the resurgence of the great Edo nation.

“I am deeply grateful to all the distinguished guests and citizens who took the time to grace the banquet celebrating the 33rd anniversary of the creation of Edo State. Together, we have worked diligently to reset our dear state on the path of greatness,” he added.

He acknowledged the collective efforts to restore the state’s greatness and assured all that he would hand over the reins to a capable team player in November, ensuring continuity and progress.

“By the grace of God, by November, I will hand over the baton of administration to a team player who will continue the race of governance and maintain the upward trajectory we have started,” he concluded.
