‘Real reason’ Love Island finalists Yas and Jamie delayed split announcement revealed as pair issue statements

SPECULATION has been rife about Love Island finalists Yas Pettet and Jamie Rhodes’ relationship ever since a boozy incident at the National Television Awards.

Following claims they secretly split BEFORE the ceremony, doubt has been thrown over their version of events – with showbiz insiders now able to reveal the real story behind what happened.

The Sun revealed the pair called it quits days after Yas was seen holding hands with The Traitors star Freddie Fraser at the awards after-party.

Fans were left confused last night when Yas and Jamie posted videos explaining they were not together at the NTAs- despite gushing about their relationship that evening.

Speaking to The Sun on the red carpet before the bash, we asked Yas how she and Jamie were doing.

“We’re really good”, she replied with a massive grin.

“He’s coming tonight. I mean, how lucky are we. We get to go to events like this together.

“The whole gang is going to be here as well, which is so nice.”

Yas then reunited with Jamie on the red carpet before the awards ceremony.

The couple looked cosy as Jamie placed his hand on Yas’s bum and she gave him a loving hug.

During the after-party however, Yas was overheard whispering to hunky Freddie: “We need to go somewhere private, no one can see.”

Meanwhile Jamie was filmed outside telling pals Yas had “f**ked off” – and when asked if they had broken up, replied: “Not yet”.

Despite waking up the next day admitting she “couldn’t remember what happened” at the NTAs, Yas attempted to clarify the reports while confirming her break-up up with Jamie.

Now a top telly agent has explained the reason why Yas and Jamie’s split played out how it did, telling The Sun: “Although the most meaningful relationship to come out of Love Island this year was The Big Three, fans are still totally invested in Yas, Shakira and Toni’s romantic partners.

“While the other girls have been with their other halves non-stop, it was clear to see there was some distance between Yas and Jamie since leaving the villa.

“Of course, everyone knows that being in a couple when you leave the show gives you the opportunity to land the most lucrative deals.

“There will have been discussions behind the scenes about Yas and Jamie trying to keep their romance rumbling on for as long as possible.

“Although they walked the National Television Awards red carpet separately, they gushed about their relationship to the press and posed for saucy snaps together.

“It was only after Yas was spotted holding hands and disappearing off with Freddie that the couple suddenly confirmed their split – despite insisting it happened before the NTAs.”

After keeping their cards close to their chest, the couple were forced to show their hand when the Freddie story leaked, our source claims.

“Jamie clearly didn’t want people to think Yas had cheated on him,” they added.

“And it wasn’t a good look for her to have fans thinking she was mistreating him.

“How they explained the fallout was an interesting move. I’m sure fans will be disappointed the pair weren’t honest and wonder whether they would have carried on the charade if Yas hadn’t got caught.”
