Real Madrid has taken action by filing a complaint with the Spanish prosecutor regarding alleged “racist and hate insults” directed at Vinicius Junior by supporters of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

The Brazilian forward has unfortunately been subjected to such abuse from opposition fans in Spain, with the most recent incident occurring at Valencia. Earlier, Valencia had banned three fans for racially abusing Vinicius in May, resulting in a partial stadium ban imposed by the Spanish football federation.

A disturbing video circulating on social media depicted Atletico Madrid fans chanting a racist slur towards Vinicius ahead of their Champions League last 16 clash with Inter. Similarly, Barcelona fans were captured chanting “Vinicius, die” before their match with Serie A champions Napoli.

In response, Real Madrid issued a statement, stating, “Real Madrid has filed a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office against hate crimes and discrimination, for the racist and hateful insults directed towards our player Vinicius Jr in the vicinity of the Olympic Stadium of Montjuic and the Metropolitan Stadium of Madrid. Our club condemns these violent attacks of racism, discrimination, and hatred that have been occurring, unfortunately, repeatedly, against our player Vinicius Jr.”

Vinicius himself addressed the situation on social media, expressing his disappointment and urging authorities to take appropriate action. He stated, “I hope you have already thought about their punishment @ChampionsLeague @UEFA, it’s a sad reality that this even happens in games where I’m not present!”

La Liga confirmed that the prosecutor’s office specializing in hate and discrimination crimes will be contacted regarding the chanting. An investigation is already underway for the racist abuse Vinicius encountered during the match against Valencia on March 2.
