Raila Odinga’s Final Wish: Family Confirms Burial to Take Place Within 72 Hours

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s family has revealed that he expressed a clear wish in his will – to be laid to rest within 72 hours of his passing.

A family source disclosed that President William Ruto was informed of Raila’s final wishes shortly after arriving at the former Premier’s Karen residence yesterday.

“Mzee put it in his Will that he should be interred within 72 hours; the President has been told to work around those timelines,” the source said, as quoted by media outlets.

Honouring his will, the family confirmed that Raila will be buried by Saturday in the family graveyard at Kango Ka Jaramogi, Nyamira, Bondo, beside the graves of his late father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, and his son, Fidel Odinga.

According to the funeral programme, four committees have been established to coordinate the burial arrangements -one at his Karen home, another at Opoda home, a third in Kisumu city, and a national committee based in Nairobi.

Raila’s body is expected to arrive at the Lee Funeral Home on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. from the airport before being taken to Parliament at 11:00 a.m. for public viewing. A national prayer service will be held on Friday at Nyayo Stadium, followed by his burial on Saturday in Siaya County.

A joint funeral committee co-chaired by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga is expected to release the full programme and official details of the events.

If the committee honours Raila’s will, the public funeral service will take place in Nairobi on Friday before his body is flown to Siaya the same evening for final rites on Saturday.
