In March, Sarah J. Maas broke the bookish side of the internet by announcing three new A Court of Thorns and Roses books on the Call Her Daddy podcast. Since then… crickets. Until now, that is. On the morning of August 17, 2026, readers woke up to a few suspicious signs: Sarah J. Maas wiped her socials, had a new profile pic, and a redesigned homepage on her website.

Just a few hours later, she revealed the titles and covers of the next two A Court of Thorns and Roses books. Here’s everything we know about A Court of Splintered Harmony and A Court of Forgotten Melody.

ACOTAR Book 6: A Court of Splintered Harmony

A Court of Splintered Harmony, book six in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series, will be released on October 27, 2026. The cover denotes the book is part of a new storyline, The Valkyrie Cycle, of which this book is “Movement I.” Preorder your copy on Bookshop.org or Amazon here!

ACOTAR Book 7: A Court of Forgotten Melody

A Court of Forgotten Melody, book seven in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series, will be released on January 12, 2027, and is “Movements II & III” of “The Valkyrie Cycle.” Preorder your copy on Bookshop.org or Amazon here!

What are ACOTAR 6 & 7 about?

The officially released plot summaries are… vague. Especially when it comes to what people really want to know: whose love story is going to form the center of this next series of books? What we do know is that the Old God Koschei the Deathless is stirring, and if they’re going to face this new threat, the Night Court needs to be united. But as the title “Splintered Harmony” suggests, not all is well with Nesta, Rhys, Feyre, and the rest of the gang. The summaries allude to as much, and if readers remember, A Court of Silver Flames left one character, Mor, in a very interesting place: on the way to a secret location for an errand that no one else knows about.

Theories that Mor will betray the Night Court have circulated for years. Only time will tell if they come to fruition. But beyond that, I’d argue what readers care the most about are the romantic relationships between the characters. Fans have long speculated that this next book would finally tell Elain’s story, with many thinking she will reject her mate bond with Lucien and instead be with the third Illyrian brother, Azriel. Others have theorized that Azriel and Gwyn, a member of the revived Valkyries, are mates and that this next series of books will explore that relationship more. There are more than 1,000 pages of new ACOTAR content coming our way, so it’s fair to assume a good chunk of that will be spent on this new love triangle.

When are ACOTAR 6 and 7 coming out?

A Court of Splintered Harmony is being released on October 27, 2026, and will be 352 pages long. Consider it an appetizer, if you will. A Court of Forgotten Melody, which has a whopping 928 pages, will be released a few months later on January 12, 2027. So while there isn’t a doubt that A Court of Splintered Harmony will leave readers wanting so much more, we luckily won’t have to wait very long.

What do we know about ACOTAR 8?

When Sarah J. Maas went on the Call Her Daddy podcast, she revealed there would be three new A Court of Thorns and Roses books, and while we now have titles, covers, and release dates for the first two, we have no information on book eight just yet. What we do know is that Sarah J. Maas wrote all of these books at the same time, thanks to a now-deleted Instagram Reel where she showed a notebook titled “ACOTAR 6-8.” With any luck, this means the eighth book is already written, and we won’t have to wait too long after book seven comes out next year.

Do you need to read SJM’s other books before reading the new ACOTAR books?

I’m going to hold your hand when I say this, but yes. Sarah J. Maas’s Crescent City series established that all of her books are linked, and reading them all is your best route to a full reading experience. Can you go in blind to the other series’ events? Maybe, but know there might be a few things you have questions about. Not sure where to start? Here’s the order you should read Sarah J. Maas’s books in.

With 16 total books, reading them all can seem daunting, but there’s a reason they’re the romantasy blueprint. If you haven’t read her other series, Throne of Glass and Crescent City, yet, you’re in for a treat—and there’s no better way to pass the time until October 27, 2026, when A Court of Splintered Harmony is finally in our hands.
