Presidency: Fake DG Forged Gbajabiamila’s Letter, Operated 34 Bank Accounts

The Presidency has distanced itself from Adeniyi Adeyemi, alleging that he forged an appointment letter purportedly issued by the office of the Chief of Staff to the President and operated 34 bank accounts under fictitious government agencies.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that Adeyemi is facing an eight-count criminal charge before the Federal High Court in Abuja and is scheduled to appear in court on July 27, 2026.

According to the Presidency, Adeyemi falsely presented himself as Director-General of a non-existent body known as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and was arrested by police on October 27, 2025, following a petition by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The statement alleged that Adeyemi used forged documents bearing falsified signatures, reference numbers and official seals to impersonate a government agency, host meetings with foreign diplomats and seek diplomatic support for visa applications.

Police investigations reportedly uncovered 34 bank accounts linked to Adeyemi, including nine opened in the names of fictitious agencies. Investigators also alleged that he fraudulently opened an account with the Central Bank of Nigeria using forged government documents, although no public funds were transferred into the account.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier raised concerns after Adeyemi reportedly hosted ambassadors at a hotel in Abuja without notifying the ministry, describing the action as a violation of established diplomatic protocols.

The Presidency further revealed that Adeyemi claimed a deceased associate, Dolapo Babatunde Tanimola, helped him procure the forged appointment letter. Police later confirmed Tanimola had died in a fire incident in Abuja days before Adeyemi’s arrest.

Warning the public against accepting Adeyemi’s claims, the Presidency urged Nigerians and political actors to allow the judicial process to run its course, noting that the matter remains before the courts.

It also reiterated that neither the so-called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council nor any appointments made under its name have any recognition or official standing within the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
