The Mercedes-Benz R-Class is perfect for families who enjoy travelling around the UK, offering comfort and space for long journeys.

The luxury MPV boasts seven seats and hosts a powerful 5.5-litre engine.

Mercedes launched the motor in 2006 following the success of its smaller A- and B-Class counterparts.

The R-Class model range was expanded two years later with more engine options.

The German manufacturer also introduced new seating options offering five to seven seats.

Despite being automatic, drivers can still change between gears using the upshift and downshift buttons located behind the steering wheel.

Motorists shouldn’t be deceived by the R-Class’ size as it can rival the speed of a BMW M3.

The Mercedes MPV can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in an impressive 4.6 seconds and boasts a remarkable top speed of 171mph.

Whereas, the BMW M3 accelerates from 0 to 62mph in a blistering 3.8 seconds but has a top speed limited to 155.3mph.

This is almost £11,000 more expensive than Mercedes Benz’s R-Class MVP.

Despite being considerably cheaper, Mercedes struggled to persuade motorists to purchase their luxury motor.

The R-Class was designed to represent its new catalogue of motors combining features of an SUV, a minivan and a station wagon/estate into one car.

However, drivers interested in getting behind the wheel of this luxury family car would only need to fork out around £7,000.

This is a bargain considering prices for MPVs can range anywhere between £5,675 to £49,991 on AutoTrader.

A 2009 Mercedes R500 Sport with over 88,000 miles on the clock is listed for £6,900 on AutoTrader.

The car was purchased at the beginning of October last year and has since undergone several component changes, including the suspension and airbags.

It is described as having some age-related marks, but “nothing too major”.

It is fitted with cameras and sensors to assist with parking and features front and rear heated seats.

For under £7,000, this 2009 Mercedes R-Class is a bargain for drivers looking for the next family car.
