Muntaka Mubarak

Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Minister of the Interior, has raised alarm over the deteriorating security situation in the Nakpanduri and Bunkpurugu Districts of the North East Region.

The Minister indicated that the police personnel in the area had been pleading for either transfers or resign, because of the numerous life threats they faced.

The district had in recent months been ravaged by killings, armed robberies, and kidnapping, creating a climate of fear and insecurity.

Alhaji Mohammed-Mubarak stated that there had been disturbing incidents where community members openly fired shots at police personnel stationed at checkpoints.

He expressed worry that residents were not cooperating with security agencies to ensure internal peace and urged stronger community involvement in safeguarding lives and property.

Alhaji Mohammed-Mubarak made these remarks while contributing to a statement on the floor of Parliament by Dr Abed-Nego Bandim, the Member of Parliament for Bunkpurugu

The Bunkpurugu legislator raised concerns about the alarming situation of missing persons in the area, with seven people not found in recent months.

The Minister assured Parliament that his office was working with security agencies to restore calm and protect both civilians and police officers in the district.
