“Police, Judiciary Must Work Together On Justice Reform” — IGP Disu Seeks CJN’s Support On Investigations, ACJA Implementation

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has met with the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Judiciary in the administration of criminal justice.

The courtesy visit took place on Thursday, July 2, 2026, and focused on improving cooperation between the two institutions in areas such as criminal investigations, prosecution support, speedy dispensation of justice, technology-driven policing and the effective implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA.

During the meeting, the IGP commended the leadership of the Judiciary in promoting judicial integrity, constitutional governance and the rule of law.

Disu said the Police and the Judiciary remain critical partners in the criminal justice system, stressing that closer collaboration was necessary to improve the quality of investigations, strengthen prosecution processes and reduce delays in criminal proceedings.

He also emphasised the need for effective implementation of the ACJA and corresponding state laws, noting that the laws were designed to enhance efficiency, protect the rights of suspects and victims, and ensure timely justice delivery.

The IGP further briefed the CJN on the Force’s ongoing investments in forensic science, intelligence-led policing, digital investigation tools and other modern policing initiatives.

He said deeper cooperation between the Police and the Judiciary in the use of technology, training and capacity-building would help strengthen criminal justice delivery across the country.

According to the Force, the engagement formed part of broader efforts to build stronger institutional synergy among key stakeholders in the justice sector.

The Police said it remains committed to working closely with the Judiciary and other relevant institutions to strengthen the rule of law, improve public confidence in the justice system and build a safer and more secure society.

The visit was disclosed in a statement issued on July 3, 2026, by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu.
