*Appoints 28, 000 special assistants for political units

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has approved One Billion Naira (N1B) as emergency relief fund to support flood victims in Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the State.

In a statement signed by his special assistant on Media, kelvin Ebiri, Governor Wike sympathised with the flood victims.

According to the statement, the One Billion Naira will help to cushion the pains experienced by the vulnerable families in Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGAs.

The statement noted that homes and farmlands have suffered from the devastating flood water particularly in Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGAs.

It noted that residents of the impacted communities in those local government areas have also been forced to relocate to safer places.

Also, the statement said a taskforce has been set up to coordinate the distribution of relief materials to the flood impacted communities in the State.

The Permanent Secretary, Special Services Bureau (SSB) in the Office of the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. George Nwaeke, has been appointed to serve as the chairman of the Taskforce, while, Mrs. Inime I. Aguma, will serve as the Secretary.

Other members of the Taskforce are, the Chairman of Ahoada West LGA, Hon. Hope Ikiriko; Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, Hon. Vincent Job; Hon. Chukwuemeka Onowo and the Director of Administration in the Ministry of Special Duties.

All members of the Taskforce are to meet with the Rivers State governor at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Thursday.

Meanwhile, governor Wike has appointed Twenty Eight Thousand Special Assistants for political units in the State and the appointments take immediate effect.

Recalled that governor Wike had on Tuesday, 11 October, 2022 appointed 319 Ward Liaison Officers and 40 Local Government Area Liaison Officers.
