Over 300 Displaced, 30 Houses Destroyed in Gunmen Attacks on Plateau Communities

More than 300 people have been displaced and 30 houses destroyed following coordinated gunmen attacks in seven communities across Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Although no lives were lost, the attacks wreaked havoc on local farmers, with barns and farmlands also destroyed.

The latest violence comes just six days after four herders were killed and another injured in Fili village, Doemak district, while grazing their animals.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman of Qua’an Pan LG Council, Danaan Cletus Sylvanus, said the council chairman, Christopher Manship, had visited the affected communities. The villages attacked include Nteng, Doop, Zhep Morop, Gyeergu, Kelaghan, Loon, Kwakii, and Gorom in Doemak District.

In a statement released to journalists on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, Sylvanus added that a stakeholders’ meeting was convened where the chairman urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to restore peace.

Sylvanus further stated that the chairman held a stakeholders’ meeting with religious and traditional leaders, urging residents to remain peaceful with one another regardless of ethnoreligious background.

It was also gathered that security personnel have been deployed to the affected areas to restore law and order.

He said: “The Executive Chairman of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area, Christopher Manship, lamented over the attacks and urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, and development associations to join hands with him to work towards a permanent solution to the attacks,” he said.

“The Chairman has mobilized security agencies to the affected areas to ensure the situation is brought under control. We are working tirelessly to restore peace and normalcy to the communities.”
