The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is paying a landmark visit to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, today, Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at the Police Headquarters in Accra, a moment many see as rich in symbolism and meaning.

The visit follows the recent extension of Mr Yohuno’s service.

For many observers, it signals trust in the direction the Service is taking at a time when public expectations around safety, accountability and professionalism remain high.

Since taking office, the IGP has overseen visible changes in how the Police Service engages the public.

Officers have been encouraged to reconnect with communities, improve conduct on duty and communicate more openly with citizens.

These efforts have gradually helped soften public scepticism and rebuild confidence in policing.

One moment that stood out under his leadership was the nationwide security operation during the recent Christmas festivities.

With large crowds on the roads and at public events, the Police Service maintained a strong presence across the country, ensuring a generally calm and secure season for families and travellers.

An observer described the operation as “one of the calmest Christmas periods in years, with police visibility and response noticeably improved.

Beyond operations, the Police Administration has also adopted a more open approach to public communication.

Regular updates, clearer briefings and prompt responses have improved cooperation between the police and the communities they serve.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s visit, therefore, goes beyond ceremony.
